I’m going to start throwing up a new band that I have been listening to lately on Fridays for you guys to check out over the weekend. First up, the aptly named Vampire Weekend.

VW is perfect upbeat summer music. These songs really make you want to be drinking some sort of alcoholic beverage through a straw, especially Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa. These four Columbia grads from New York City have done a great job of making a sound that is very different and it hearkens back to Paul Simon’s Graceland cd, (which I loved enough to write a paper on in college, stupid world music teacher…)who they list as one of their influences along with Lady Black Mambazo and other African bands. Right now all they have available is a 3 song EP on Other Music, but a full length is going to be out very soon. Its the weekend!
