If you’re like me, Friday nights are usually spent pondering your drab existence, arguing with your cat, and beating 12 year old rednecks in Nascar ‘08. Well not this week. The good fellows at The Mohawk have lined up an event that is sure to make Red River the place to be. What’s the occasion? How about a double CD release party featuring Built By Snow and Red Monroe? Yeah, I’d say it’s a pretty big deal.

By now you should know all about Red Monroe and their latest effort, ¡Policia! ¡Policia! (if not, check out Blackbird’s preview). If you’ve not yet heard of Built By Snow, they’re an Austin band who evoke hints of Weezer and The Cars (though they’d probably never admit it). I’ve only recently discovered them, but have quickly fallen in love. How else could you feel about a band that inspires this kind of fan vid?

In related news, The Mohawk has finally launched its new site, which features a heavy-duty calendar replete with iCal functionality. They’re doing some incredible things for the music scene in Austin, and it’s high time people started packing the place (as long as the band actually shows up – yeah I’m talking about you Ghosthustler). It’s looking more and more like KP and I are gonna have to set up a tent on the roof in October.
