ACL Preview #4: Ghostland Observatory

One of the can’t-miss shows of ACL Festival 2007 is Ghostland Observatory. This Austin duo has been performing to rave reviews around the country on the heels of their two CDs, delete.delete.i.eat.meat and paparazzi lightning. I had the fortune of catching them at the Hogg Auditorium on the UT campus last year, and I can testify to the fact that Ghostland puts on a show that will remain with you for a while.

Aaron Behrens, the lead singer/sometime guitar player/crazy dancin’ fool, dominates the stage as he struts, dances, and belts out the vocals, dual pony tails flapping away. He’s flanked by the daftly caped Thomas Ross Turner, who manages to play the drums and keyboards simultaneously throughout the show. On top of all that, their songs actually kick ass.

Ghostland got a big boy slot at ACL this year (thank God for no more 11 AM shows) as they’ll be facing off against The Decemberists and Reverend Horton Heat from 7:45-8:30 on Sunday evening. I don’t know about you, but it sounds like a perfect way to end the weekend to me (before Dylan of course).

great ghostland story....they played at a proper dance club in london in feb (between 2 well known djs) to about 750 people who had never heard of them. the entire place went completely nuts after the 1st song. the next day they dropped off 50 vinyls to rough trade in camden and they sold out within a week, which made them the top selling album of the week at RT ahead of lcd. amazing. not bad for their first trip to the uk.

It's too bad they have the noon time slot at Lolla again...

also too bad that they won't have woodrow as a "backup" dancer in front of the stage, facing the crowd, as always.
